Cash Box Kings – “Crosscut Saw”

Think I’ll finish out the year with the Cash Box Kings. These guys are always fun and I always enjoy partying with my brother from Chicago’s South Side, Mr Oscar Wilson. Here’s Oscar fronting Joel Patterson and the guys on an old Blues standard, “Crosscut Saw.” The Cash Box Kings will be at the Crystal Corner Bar in Madison WI tonight for a hot New Year’s Eve show. I’ll be there hoisting one with them! Happy New Year everyone!!

Phat Phunction – “You and Me” – Live in Yokohama, Japan

In December, I’m featuring bands I got to see during 2013. One of the better shows was Phat Phunction in the “Funk Out Cancer” show at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison WI in November. At the end of the show there were 15 horns on stage!! For those who don’t know, they are HUGE in Japan. They actually have Phat Phunction cover bands there. Here they are live from their last visit. I understand that they’re headed back to Japan again in 2014.

Warren Haynes – Christmas Jam

I’ve seen Warren Haynes play with the Allman Brothers Band, the Dead, the Dave Matthews Band, Gov’t Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, as well as his latest soul project, the Warren Haynes Band. Every time I see him play, I feel like I’m watching a true craftsman. Here’s “Dreams” from his most recent Christmas Jam featuring Gregg Allman on vocals.

Jonny Lang – “Lie To Me”

I usually don’t post videos with ads but I had to make an exception here. I first saw Jonny Lang at Summerfest in Milwaukee when he was 16 yrs old. He blew me away then! I’ve seen him 3 times since, the latest in September at the Overture Center in Madison opening for Buddy Guy. It was a terrific show! Here’s Jonny performing my favorite, “Lie To Me.” Ironically, he didn’t do this one in September so I’m blasting it now!
